‘Shine a light – understanding ADHD’
Every October we celebrate ADHD Awareness month around the World. What is it like to have ADHD? There is a lot of prejudice and misconception about ADHD. This documentary shines a light on living with ADHD, from a personal and a scientific perspective. Created by a team of young researchers of the MiND research project and 4QFilms. In Scotland, Daniel Johnson, member of the Scottish parliament came out in parliament about his own ADHD stigmatisation in Parliament and on social media. His speech is open about his own ADHD and the medication he now uses. He is an example of a way to influence a parliament as an individual member of parliament by sharing openly his own issue. The nature of politics makes it extremely unusual for any politician to share anything about their personal opinions or private life which could cause any possible risk to their reputation. Daniel Johnson, however, has not only been willing to risk media criticism by defending the use of medication for ADHD, but he has even made his own ADHD diagnosis and medication status public in a show of true solidarity with all adults with ADHD in the UK. His courage and determination (sometimes known in the ADHD world as ‘not thinking something through before doing it’) is nothing short of inspirational, and he is an ambassador to us all.
We need more politicians like

Here is a video about Daniel Johnson speaking out about his ADHD in Parliament. Here you will see and hear the reaction of Daniel Johnson’s colleagues and members of parliament:
In Croatia, there is also a politician who talks openly about his ADHD.
In Greece, the Mayor of Athens, Mr. Giorgos Kaminis, moved everyone with the narrative of his childhood experience with ADHD, giving a strong message to all that ADHD has a high psychological cost but is also manageable. Mr. Kaminis said that he decided to publicly share the experience with ADHD in childhood to help combat the ignorance that can "poison the life of a human being and the lives of his relatives forever; and ended by saying that for the problems we must be ;open and clean, looking at the truth, so that we can deal with it’
In Belgium, Maggie de Block MEP who even has a special website and Julie Ward MEP from UK is very active in Belgium with regards to ADHD etc.
