AIFA Onlus - established on October 5th, 2002.

The Italian ADHD Family Association is a non-profit association of families with children and adults affected by ADHD which aims to achieve only social goals, mainly regarding instruction and scientific information about ADHD.  Our main project is called, “Parents for Parents” an initiative which enables parents of ADHD children supporting other parents of children with the same condition.

Main goals:

  • create a network of parents willing to listen and support other parents who are affected by ADHD, thereby enabling them to benefit from the similarities of their mutual experiences;
  • coordinate contacts among ADHD families;
  • supply knowledge on scientific matters regarding ADHD and its therapies, in order to achieve a correct diagnosis in the shortest time possible, as well as multimodal treatment of ADHD
  • create a link among social, educational and health structures and their operators involved daily with an ADHD child;
  • keep an updated map of all Italian centres and professionals specialised in diagnosis and multimodal treatment;
  • cooperate with local and national institutions such as: Ministries, Social Services, Health Departments, Hospitals, Universities, Private Institutions, Scientific-Cultural  and other non profit organisations defend the rights of the children and of their families in order to improve their quality of life and favour the social acceptance of the disorder/conditionmutual aid groups.

The association is composed of a board, a president, a vice president and a treasurer. In addition, there are several “Reference-parents” in charge of district or provincial areas. These members are parents who volunteer, either by a telephone help-line, e-mail or direct contacts, a real support to all those parents and/or adults who have to deal with ADHD. They listen to their problems and make them feel understood, they give them advice and all the necessary information on the social, educational and health structures existing in their own areas.

AIFA Onlus also makes use of “Collaborators” (parents, teachers, doctors, psychologists, child psychologists, rehabilitation trainers) willing to cooperate with reference-parents within a project of self-help, dissemination and training on ADHD.
