Adana is a non profit organization, created in September 1997. Dedicated to supporting and helping people affected by ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) and those surrounding them. It is recognized by the Generalitat of Catalonia, with the register number 1.102, at the Registre de Fundacions Privades de Catalunya, Spain. Its main objective is to inform, train and help everybody who is interested in the disorder, and the development of all sources to better the quality of life of those with ADHD and their families and minimize the negative impact the disorder has on their lives so they can reach their full potential. We believe in the importance of sensitizing those who are part of the child’s life (family and school) as we are convinced that a change of attitude in the adults can help the child establish strategies for his/her ADHD symptoms and prevent the occurrence of academic failure and social exclusion, as well as other problems or even some disorders with a worse prognosis. We also want to raise awareness with the authorities of the importance of an early diagnosis and multimodal treatment as well of the need for diagnosis in the adults affected and a proper multimodal treatment for them too. Adana works closely with the Spanish Federation of Parent’s Associations, FEAADAH, at the support, training and advocacy level, to inform the Spanish State Institutions of the needs of those with the disorder and their families. Adana through its president, Isabel Rubió, has participated also in many of the ADHD European initiatives and activities. To achieve our goals we have different kinds of activities, which can be considered in two big groups. One is dedicated directly to the needs the child or adolescent has, the other group focuses on training in adequate educative strategies for the adults. At the Information level we have the magazine, Adana-News, which is sent to more than 60.000 people free of charge. The web page has also information for those who require it. We give annual conferences, with the acceptance and implication of the Health and Educacion Departments. Adana has also Booklets with information about different aspects of the disorder, also free of charge, as well as the Educator’s Guide, with more than 65.000 exemplars. We participate on the different media programs: radio, press, TV. Adana trains professionals, like the teacher’s continuous training, to university students, to other professionals: psychologists, psycho-pedagogues, pedagogues, also conferences to schools or provides personal teacher’s help in the classroom. We give parents open conferences to inform them of the disorder to help them to find the best diagnosis and treatment. At the training level we have a regular Parent’s and Grand-Parent’s School. Through our different activities we have given 25.000 booklets of information, we also have provided information to more than 3.500 parents, and train more than 5.000 teachers. More than 3.000 people have attended our conferences. Adana offers affected children and adolescents psycho pedagogical help, for those with learning difficulties, social and emotional skills, sport activities on weekends, summer activities, preschool activities and adolescent’s groups.
