Goals of BVAD

  • Grouping of self-help strengths
  • Representation and promotion of the interests of the member organisations at a national and international level
  • Co-operation with associations that have similar goals at national and international levels
  • Promotion of communication, in particular with professional organisations

Functions of BVAD

  • Provision of information to those affected by ADHD and their families
  • Education of and provision of information to all institutions and groups dealing with education, care and training
  • Promotion and organisation of conferences, professional events, seminars and further education
  • Promotion of quality assurance in training and further education
  • Promotion of quality assurance of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures
  • Promotion of the sciences and research
  • Support of member associations with regard to public relations activities

Affected children, teenagers and adults often stand out due to

  • High level of distractibility,
  • Openness to external stimuli
  • Insufficiently able to differentiate between what is important and what is not
  • Impulsiveness
  • Hyperactivity/Hypoactivity
  • Reading, writing and mathematical learning disorders
  • Slow learning processes despite average intelligence
  • Tiredness and lack of drive
  • Psychosomatic symptoms such as headaches, stomach aches, sleep and eating disorders

Affected persons sometimes perceive their environment “differently” to other persons.
They frequently stand out through maladjusted behaviour. This is often misinterpreted as a lack of discipline, indifference or lack of intelligence. These incorrect interpretations and misunderstandings can trigger insecurity or even helplessness among those affected and their parents, carers, teachers, grandparents and other persons they deal with.
